The Golden Isles in the forefront of resort golf in Southeast

From the posh fairways of Sea Island's Seaside course to the bunkers of Satilla Hammock, The Golden Isles has the course to fit anyone's game or purse strings.

Sea Island's four (soon to be five) courses difine golf at the highest, most luxurious levels. Redesigned by the Frank Lloyd Wright of golf course architecture, Tom Fazio, Sea Island's courses have been the scene for international events large and small, including last year's UBS Cup as well as The Southeastern Conference Championship.

Shadowing Sea Island's three historic courses (Seaside, Plantation and Retreat) is The Lodge, a posh retreat for golfers from around the world. Inside you will find some of the best restaurants in the area as well as an elaborate lockeroom featuring it's own menu.

To play the private Sea Island courses, you can expect to pay $100-$250 depending the season. Your best bet is to stay at either The Lodge or Cloister and take advantage of a package.

On the northern tip of Sea Island, you'll find the very exclusive Oceanforest Golf Club. You had better know someone if you want to get on this course, as exclusivity is an understatement.

If you're looking to spend a little less cash on St. Simons Island, there are the alternatives Sea Palms or The Hampton Club. Both provide beautiful golf experiences at a price range of around $60-$100, again depending on the season. You can also take advantage of package deals.

If you feel like hopping over the Jekyll Island from St. Simons Island or Sea Island, you can find a round on Jekyll Island, which boasts four courses and 63 holes at Great Dunes, Oleander, Indian Mound or Pine Lakes. You can expect to pay more than $50, but check seasonal specials. Here's a hint, most greens fees include all you can play. So if you're a glutton for punishment go over in the morning and play Jekyll Island all day. Also, most hotels on Jekyll Island offer plenty of packages for golfers.

If you go inland, you can experience even greater discounts with courses like Sapelo Hammock (Shellman's Bluff), The Brunswick Country Club, Osprey Cove, as well as several other courses offering prices in the $40s.
